A reminder for pharmacists from GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare on the correct sale of alli

Two recent mystery shopper investigations were conducted by the Sunday Telegraph and Daily Star on 26th April 2009, both of which found pharmacies incorrectly selling alli, with some selling the product without checking age or BMI.

GSK would like to take this opportunity to remind all pharmacists that alli is for overweight adults 18 years or over with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 28 or more. It is the responsibility of the pharmacist to sell the product in line with the terms of the licence and they therefore need to make an assessment of a person’s age and BMI before selling alli. Pharmacists must also ensure that their pharmacy assistants are appropriately trained.

GSK has produced extensive pharmacy training, details of which can be found on the education page or by calling our education support line on 0800 783 3927.
